Amber ~ Beth Allen (S1,3,4,5)
An attractive, fiery, intelligent girl who initially assumes control of the group through her natural leadership qualities. Amber has had to become streetwise the hard way, though her background is middle-class, private school education. She's fiercely moral and determined that something positive will come out of their predicament. This leads her to sometimes be too hard on everyone, herself in particular. In reality, a sensitive, caring soul, Amber has a great longing for love deep inside her, which she keeps hidden, fearing that to reveal it will make her weak.

Bray. ~ Dwayne Cameron (s1-3)
A handsome, confidently cool, enigmatic young man. A natural loner, content with his own company, Bray is an experienced eco-warrior and activist.
He distrusts all leaders and initially refused to assume his natural role within the group. On the surface very sure of himself, inside he's a turmoil of emtions about his suspicion among the others. Tall, well built, Bray can handle himself, but whether he could match the manic ferocity of his rival, Lex, is in doubt.

Lex ~ Caleb Ross (s1-5)
A hard, arrogant, street-fighter, full of macho bravado. A natural bully, Lex inspires fear, rather than respect, among the rest.
Resentful towards Amber, who the others respect as their leader, Lex is as devious as she is honest. But Amber is more than a match for him, sensing a basic insecurity in the young man, which stems from his lack of education and inability to read and write, of which he is ashamed and keeps a closely guarded secret.
Someone to have on your side in a fight, but also someone never to turn your back on.

Jack ~ Michael Wesley-Smith (s1-5)
Archetypal "brains". Studious, intelligent and committed to finding a technological solution to their problems. It is Jack who is able to construct a basic generator to power the essentials for the group.
Inordinately vain about his scientific talent, Jack can be overbearing and dogmatic. He also passionately believes that some adults still exist who will lead them out of their present chaos.
His stubborn insistence on trying to communicate with those mythical grown-ups via his short wave radio, becomes almost a religious mania.

Salene ~ Vicotia Spence (s1-5)
A gentle, caring, mother girl, Salene is a natural magnet for all the little ones in distress, though at times she can resent being cast in the role of 'mother', which the rest are happy to typecast her with.
Initially kind and unselfish, her growing attraction to Bray brings all her suppressed emotions to the fore and her friendship with Trudy turns to bitter enmity. Through her growing sense of guilt and lack of self-worth, Salene becomes bullimic, and is only saved from tragedy by the caring Ryan.
